Geringas Chamber Orchestra was established on 70th anniversary of legendary cellist and conductor David Geringas in Berlin in 2016. Key idea was to offer young and talented musicians an opportunity of performing with orchestra under primary direction of David Geringas. The idea was promoted with great enthusiasm not least by musicians of Berlin orchestras, respected chamber musicians and international award winners. The first CD & DVD recording followed in 2020. The chamber orchestra has its big debut at the Elbe Philharmonic Hall on 7th June 2021. More than 20 concerts followed in 2021-2022 season across Europe. The ensemble hosted concerts at Palais de la Musique et des Congrès, in Strasbourg and at the Alsace-Moselle Memorial in Schirmeck. Concert tours will take the orchestra to Japan, China and South Korea. Concert series will take place in Berlin, in Munich and Leipzig. The Lithuanian composer Donatas Prusevičius dedicated the ensemble “Hommage à Beethoven” that was premiered in 2021 at the Usedom Music Festival.
The founder and director of the orchestra, David Geringas, is regularly in spotlight on national and international podiums and often combines roles of cellist and conductor. In addition to the strongholds of Western and Eastern European music centers (Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Auditorium Parco della Musica Roma, Wiener Musikverein, Tonhalle Zurich, Berlin Philharmonic, etc.), invitations also took him to Asia and the USA. From 2005 to 2008 he was Chief Guest Conductor of the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra Japan. In 2007 David Geringas made his conductor debut with Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and the China Philharmonic Orchestra. In February 2009 he made his debut as a conductor with Moscow Philharmonic in Moscow and in 2015 with orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. He made his operatic debut in 2010 with Tchaikovsky's “Eugene Onegin” in Klaipeda / Lithuania. In 2015 David Geringas made his successful debut in Vilnius as musical director and conductor of the ballet “Egle, the Viper Queen” by Eduardas Balsys. Since 1997 David Geringas has been a permanent guest conductor of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, with which he successfully toured in Italy, France, Spain, Finland, Costa Rica and China.
